REWIND – PodCulture 341: Tasty Tasty Pain – Part B

After an open by the charming Alan Tudyk, we welcome you back to PodCulture!

The gang is still sipping on their tasty pain liquid, which makes for a sillier open than you might expect.

Back from the break, Brad and Glenn announce the winner of C.E. Martin’s books Mythical:Heart of Stone and the sequel, Mythical:Brothers In Stone. Congratulations to Megan! Let us know how you like them?

What encourages silliness in geeks? Sugar! Our Geek Cuisine this week is Starburst Crazy Beans Jellybeans! The whole gang finds them as tasty as they are colorful!

We’re geeking and telling! Brad shows off his birthday swag. Christina got him Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy on blu-ray, since his age is the answer to everything this year. She also picked out some Green Lantern Hot Wheels and an Avengers ballcap. The tale of the toy debacle ensues. Now that apple cider time is approaching, she bought him a Tardis travel mug and a Doctor Who t-shirt from one of her favorite daily shirt sites. At Dragon Con, Brad picked up a stack of trade paperbacks. His Shepherd Book Little Damn Hero arrived in the mail and Brad’s looking forward to the Inara figure. For his birthday, Christina decorated a key lime pie in a koala motif. It leads them down the twisted path of gold koala droppings and future names of Android updates. Glenn has been picking up lots of dvds and 11X17 top loader art protectors for his comic work. He has been enjoying archiving his drawings. His birthday is coming up and has pre-ordered the James Bond 50th Anniversary megaset to go with Avengers on blu-ray. The 10th Anniversary of Firefly on television is upon us and we all feel due to watch them again. Adam has been spending all his money on runs, obstacle courses and scuba trips. Christina has been saving her pennies and pence for her trip with her mom. She did find herself a free app called Traffic Panic London, loving the detail of the city and the inclusion of the TARDIS. Brad picked up a game for his android tablet called Order and Chaos Online, and loves it despite (and because of) the WoW-ness of it. Christina isn’t comfortable with feeling obligated with game subscriptions. Brad tells the tale of getting Sirius radio in the new car.

Music this week includes “Kaylee” and “Can’t Stop The Signal” from the Firefly Music Project.

REWIND – PodCulture 340: Tasty Tasty Pain – Part A

(Due to Valentine’s Day falling on our normal recording night, the crew was unable to get together to record a new episode. We should be back in studio this week for some all-new geekery. In the meantime…please enjoy this blast from the past. -BRAD)

After an introduction from the effervescent Ron Glass, we welcome you to PodCulture!

Adam begins with his Rugged Maniac marathon, explaining some of the obstacles and admitting to possibly over-training for the event. He is exceedingly proud of his friend, Kevin, for joining him on his fitness journey. The next day, he went for a dive at the LaGrange Quarry. Adam is now amping up the training for the Bourbon Chase run, loving the Nike Running App for his phone. Adam’s CGI work on the Firefly fan film, “Bellflower”, had its first 8-minute preview at Dragon Con and he is excited for the work to continue.

Glenn picked up an 11×17 scanner to preserve his art and art he has commissioned from others. World of Warcraft released a big update, so he is back in his flying mount’s saddle again. Guild Wars 2 has come out and he has already filled his five characters slots, talking about how great the game looks. Mech Warrior is in beta and Adam is happy to be testing it. As if gaming wasn’t taking up Glenn’s time, all the new seasons of shows came out for sale.

Christina took the week Brad was gone to do some cleaning and some birthday shopping, while watching Netflix. She is trying desperately to plan a trip to England with her mom, but is in dire need of help and will gladly accept advice from travel savvy listeners.

Brad had his yearly trip to the mecca of geek that is Dragon Con! Raining on his parade a bit was the passing of his trusty car, Trendsetter. He tells the tale of bringing home his new car, Emma Peelout.

Geek Cuisine is cinna-molten goodness as Brad shares his discover of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey.

Glenn opens TV and DVD talk with Face Off, and doesn’t know if Hot Set will follow in its footsteps. Haven is finally returning and everyone is glad Grimm is back. Alphas is stepping up and we all like the new character of Kat. He picked up Big Bang Theory, Fringe and Terra Nova on dvd. Adam has been doing a Lord of The Rings marathon. He is also watching Eureka and The Nerdist. The whole gang loved the new Doctor Who premiere and the fact that two Harry Potter people were in the same episode. Adam went to see Snow White and The Huntsman and was terribly underwhelmed by Kristen Stewart.

Christina spent the weekend mainlining all 3 seasons of Arrested Development on Netflix, blown away by attention to continuity and consistent humor. She has also watched the Titanic mini-series with Jenna-Louise Coleman and then made Brad watch it with her again. The pair are watching Alphas and Warehouse 13, anticipating the dark turns the show is taking. Adam is watching Wilfred and Christina is thrilled to have someone to share her love of the show with. Brad and Christina are enjoying Copper, which they liken to Deadwood meets NYPD Blue. They also caught the preview of Revolution, and Christina appreciates the social commentary on the fact that we are so dependent on electricity and technology.

Music this week includes tracks from The Firefly Music Project, including “Serenity” and “River”.

PodCulture 263: PodCulture Rewind 5

The final installment of PodCulture Rewind is here! The entire crew introduces the flashback to what was an epic series of PodCulture episodes…..Episodes 77 thru 81 the infamous Holidazed and Confused series! Better known as the mega Jones Soda special! Tons of crazy soda and a room full of geeks….what could go wrong?

Please note however that while this version of the Holidazed and Confused series has been slightly remastered to improve sound quality (leveled the sound a little better, and replaced the music with cleaner higher quality versions of the exact same thing) the audio is still a little rough as it was recorded on our old recording rig.

PodCulture 262: PodCulture Rewind 4

The fourth episode of PodCulture Rewind is here! In this remastered episode the crew pays tribute to one of their favorite actors with: Stargate Louisville Salutes Don S. Davis

Please note however that while this version has been slightly remastered to improve sound quality (leveled the sound a little better, and replaced the music with cleaner higher quality versions of the exact same thing) the audio is still a little rough in places as it was recorded on older equipment and not in the best of conditions either.
